About

Every piece begins with a question.

How can this connect with that?

LydiaRink

I’m Lydia, a mixed media artist living and working in Duisburg, Germany.

Rather than starting with a finished image in mind, I begin by exploring the possibilities hidden within the materials themselves.

It might begin with a torn piece of paper, a painted mark, a simple shape or a touch of soft pastel. From there, one decision leads naturally to the next.

I’m inspired by the material itself. Every paper, mark and surface already holds its own character. As I work, I look for connections between colours, shapes and textures. It’s an intuitive process of discovery. I’m not searching for an image. I’m searching for connections.

Over the years, my work has moved between collage and painting, but the way I work has remained the same. I build up layers with paper, paint, ink and drawing, allowing traces of earlier decisions to remain visible. I enjoy the conversation between structure and spontaneity, quiet passages and expressive marks, always leaving room for the unexpected.

Paper continues to play an important role in my practice. I collect found papers, create my own collage papers and combine them with paint and drawing materials. Each element brings its own history, texture and character, becoming part of a new visual conversation.

I hope my work invites you to slow down and spend time looking. From a distance, the compositions may appear calm and balanced. As you move closer, more details, textures and relationships begin to emerge. I want each piece to reward curiosity and reveal something new every time you return to it.
