Collage Material

Collage Substrate:
For my collages I use different kinds of substrates. The Canves Panels are based on card board and they bend a bit when you use a lot of wet glue. The gesso boards are based on hardboard and do not bend.

You wonder how you can hang such panels and boards on the wall?
I tried two different things: Use a shadow frame to frame your panel or you can mount the panel or board on a canvas or cradled wood panel.

Arteza Canvas Panel:
These acrylic paint canvases are already primed with 8 oz. of acid-free acrylic titanium gesso. No prep necessary.

Ampersand Gesso Board:
Wood hardboard panel primed with an acrylic gesso thicker than most brands. Thicker and stronger than the cardboard based canvas panels.

Glue:
Liquitex Matte Medium:
I use matte medium as a first layer for my collages on gesso board.

Metylan Wallpaper Paste:
when I play with material to try things out I use wallpaper paste for glueing paper pieces down. This glue is made for paper and it works really well. But you need to add matte medium as a first layer on the board or panel because the wallpaper paste doesn’t stick so well on gesso boards or canvas panels.

Varnish:
Liquitex Satin Spray Varnish:
As  finish I like to use this spray varnish as protection coat for my collages. Especially when I used the wallpaper paste to glue down the paper pieces.
I use the satin version because I don’t like the super shine of the gloss one very much.

Gamblin Cold Wax Medium:
I really like to use a thin layer of cold wax medium as a top layer for my collages. It adds a matte and wax like finish to the collage.

Useful Tools:
Scalpel:
For cutting small collage pieces and letters I like to use a stainless steel scalpel with #11 blades.

Scalpel:
Stainless steel scalpel with 100 blades.

Brush:
For collage I like to use cheap bristle brushes with wooden handle.

Monoprinting with Gel Plates:

Gel Plate:
Gel Press Plate 8×10:
For my gel plate prints / image transfers I like to use the size 8×10

Gelli Arts Plate 8×10:
Gel Printing Plates that look and feel like gelatin but are durable and reusable- just store at room temperature

Acrylic Paint:
Liquitex Heavy Body Paint:
I love the reds and greens

Royal Talens Amsterdam Expert Series:
Most of the time I use the indigo blue acrylic paint from this series.

Brayer:
I like to use 4 inch brayer to work on my 8×10 inch gel plate.

Baren:
The Speedball Baren is designed to help you create gorgeous prints.

Tissue Paper:
I like to monoprint on tissue paper because the paper gets transparent when glueing down with matte medium or wallpaper paste (or any wet glue) So I can create an layering effect on my collage work.
